Featured in Yahoo Finance: Why Monmouth County’s Housing Market Continues to Defy National Trends

July 27, 2026 by Melissa DeSantis Leave a Comment

Melissa DeSantis was recently featured in Yahoo Finance, where she shared her insights on why the Monmouth County housing market continues to outperform many national trends. When national media covers the housing market, it’s easy to assume the same trends apply everywhere. The reality is that real estate is local, and that’s exactly why Yahoo Finance recently reached out to me for my perspective on what’s happening here in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

I was honored to be quoted in a Yahoo Finance article discussing why, despite signs of cooling in many parts of the country, our local housing market continues to remain remarkably resilient.

Why Yahoo Finance Featured Melissa DeSantis

Across the United States, many markets are seeing an increase in available homes, giving buyers more choices and creating more balanced conditions. In some areas, sellers are adjusting prices, and homes are taking longer to sell.

Here in Monmouth County, however, the story is different.

While we have seen the market become slightly more balanced than it was during the peak of the pandemic buying frenzy, inventory remains well below historical norms. Well-priced homes in desirable communities continue to attract significant buyer interest, and many sellers are still receiving multiple offers.

This is why relying solely on national headlines can be misleading. Every market has its own dynamics, and understanding what’s happening locally is critical when making real estate decisions.

During my conversation with Yahoo Finance, I explained that Monmouth County continues to benefit from several factors that keep demand strong.

Our location offers convenient access to both New York City and Philadelphia, highly regarded school districts, vibrant downtowns, beautiful parks, and the Jersey Shore. Combined with a limited supply of available homes, these factors continue to support property values throughout much of the county.

Today’s buyers are also approaching the market differently than they did a few years ago. They are more selective, more informed, and often willing to compete for homes that are well-prepared and priced appropriately.

What This Means for Sellers

If you’re considering selling your home, today’s market still presents excellent opportunities, but success is no longer automatic.

The homes generating the strongest interest are those that are thoughtfully prepared, professionally marketed, and strategically priced from the very beginning. Professional photography, high-quality video, digital marketing, and accurate pricing have become even more important as buyers have more information at their fingertips than ever before.

Every home has a unique story to tell, and presenting it effectively can have a significant impact on both buyer interest and final sale price.

What This Means for Buyers

For buyers, today’s market offers opportunities as well.

Although competition remains strong in many Monmouth County communities, buyers generally have more time to evaluate homes than they did during the height of the market frenzy. Interest rates continue to influence affordability, but many buyers are finding success by focusing on long-term goals rather than trying to perfectly time the market.

Working with a local expert who understands neighborhood trends, pricing strategies, and current inventory can make a meaningful difference throughout the buying process.

Why Local Expertise Matters

One of the reasons I enjoy speaking with members of the media is the opportunity to help explain that there is no such thing as a single national housing market.

Conditions in Freehold may differ from Marlboro. Marlboro may differ from Holmdel. Even neighborhoods within the same town can perform differently based on inventory, buyer demand, school districts, and property type.

Helping clients understand those local nuances has been the foundation of my business for nearly two decades.

Honored to Be Featured

I’m grateful to Yahoo Finance for including my perspective in this national conversation about today’s housing market.

Being featured by a respected national publication is an honor, but more importantly, it reinforces something I’ve always believed: local knowledge matters.

Whether you’re buying your first home, preparing to sell, downsizing, or simply trying to understand what’s happening in today’s market, having accurate, local information is one of the most valuable resources you can have.
