I think it can be very easy sometimes to feel like what you know is common knowledge. No matter what your line of work is, there are certain things in your field that seem obvious. It’s impossible to even imagine a time where you didn’t know certain things. That’s how I felt when someone asked me why people hire realtors. I was shocked! To me, the answer is so obvious. But I have to remember, most people don’t work in real estate! So I decided to make this blog post to explain the basics as to why someone should hire a realtor in the first place.
Let’s talk about the big one- money. People get freaked out about that realtor commission fee. But that’s crazy because the truth is that a realtor brings in MORE money for you. According to
National Association of Realtors, homes sold by owners sell for 30% less than their realtor-sold counterparts.
What does that actually mean? It means that selling your home yourself and without a realtor means losing money, not saving. Ever hear of the saying you have to spend a little to make a lot? Hiring a realtor is an investment.
I feel like the monetary difference is enough to get people to understand the importance of realtors. But what else? How are they able to sell homes for so much more? The simple answer is knowledge. It is about knowing what to look for at all times. From inside the house to in the paperwork, realtors know what is right and what is not.
Conclusion? Realtors are worth it. People often have this misconception that they don’t need a realtor because they can “do it themselves”. But what happens when you cut your own hair, do your own car repairs, or find the cheap way out of anything? Odds are, if you have no clue what you are doing, it is going to show. Whether that means over spending because you didn’t have a realtor to help you navigate the market or giving yourself a stupid looking haircut, you’re going to regret not getting professional. And by professional I mean a GOOD professional! A $5 haircut and a $65 haircut are not going to look the same. The same applies to choosing realtors.
