Open spaces and small town atmosphere
Colts Neck is a small rural town located in Monmouth County, NJ. Colts Neck is known as a prominent and affluent community and has been ranked as one of the state’s highest-income communities.
Colts Neck is different from your typical town within Monmouth County. Unlike its neighboring towns, such as Freehold and Holmdel, Colts Neck has a rural atmosphere. It has a small-town feel, and the community has few traffic lights and no sidewalks. Colts Neck traces its roots back to the early 1700s and was called Scobeyville. In the mid 1800s, this was changed to Colts Neck. Colts Neck was originally a farming community known for its equestrian farms. Between the 1950s and the 70s, many wooded areas were developed with ranch and colonial-style homes on acre lots. In the 1980s, much of the town’s farmland was replaced with very large homes, mansions, and estate-style homes. The most famous resident is Bruce Springsteen, and although he has owned many homes within NJ, his primary residence is still his 400-acre horse farm in Colts Neck.
Colts Neck Township has strict zoning regulations, and because there is no public water or sewage service, most homes must be built on lots covering a minimum of 2, 5, and 10 acres. Only one development offers public utilities, and all other houses are septic and well.
Colts Neck is home to Delicious Orchards, a 60,000-square-foot retail market. It opened in the early 1900s as an apple orchard and has expanded into a food market. Delicious Orchards is the only supermarket in the town. Dorbrook park is the area’s recreation center on over 500 acres. The park offers a playground, tennis & basketball courts, a swimming pool, a spray park, soccer fields, and plenty of paved space for walking and biking.
Colts Neck residents enjoy its open spaces and small-town atmosphere. The town also allows close proximity to many Jersey Shore beaches and easy access to New York City. In addition, families consider Colts Neck a wonderful place to live because of its low crime, college-educated neighbors, high rate of home ownership, and highly rated public schools.
Students in public school for ninth through twelfth grades attend Colts Neck High School, which is part of TheFreehold Regional High School District. The Freehold Regional High School District also serves students from Marlboro Township, Englishtown, Farmingdale, Howell, Freehold Township, Freehold Borough and Manalapan Township. Students from Colts Neck can apply to participate in one of the Freehold Regional Learning Center Magnet programs within these six schools.
Colts Neck is unique in many ways, but it is a beautiful place to live and raise a family.
