If you want to sell your home for the most money possible, follow these five tips:
1. Update your kitchens and baths. You can update these areas without spending thousands by updating hardware, appliances, and fixtures; repairing leaky faucets; and giving the rooms a thorough cleaning.
2. Declutter and depersonalize. When a buyer walks into your home, they need to be able to envision themselves and their families living there. If you have too many personal photos and items on display, the buyers won’t get the emotional connection to the home they need to get when they enter it. Also, remember that buyers are buying space, not things; get a headstart on your move by packing up personal items you won’t need and storing them away. This allows your buyers to see the space your home offers.
3. Paint. A can of paint may be your best investment of the ones I’ve listed. You probably won’t have to paint the entire house; just focus on the scuff marks, stains, and chips. However, if your home has rooms with bold colors, I recommend painting them over with more neutral colors, as it will be more inviting to a wider pool of buyers.
4. Clean. Deep clean the entire home, including carpeting and flooring. Replace any burnt-out lightbulbs, too; when showing your home, it’s best to have as much natural light as possible. A well-cleaned home shows buyers that you take pride in your home and have maintained it throughout the years.
5. Landscaping. The exterior of your property is the first impression a buyer will get when they arrive at your home. Clean up your landscaping by, raking, mowing, trimming, and adding mulch to your flower beds. Here’s a bonus tip: Yellow flowers help sell homes. Try buying a couple of potted yellow flowers and putting them by your front door. As they say: You never get a second chance to make an impactful first impression.
