If you plan on selling your home yourself, it’s paramount that you hire a professional photographer.
If you decide to sell your home on your own, should you use your smartphone to take its listing photos?
First of all, I never recommend selling a home on your own, and I don’t just say that because I’m a Realtor. Statistics show that sellers who hire an agent to sell their home end up netting, on average, 23% more from the sale.
If you still want to sell on your own, though, what do you do about photographs? I don’t care if you’re selling a $100,000 home or a $10 million home—always invest in a professional photographer. Never use your smartphone.
Hire a professional photographer when listing your home.
If a buyer comes to your home, that’s not their first showing. Their first showing happens online, and it’s crucial to make a good first impression. Bad online photos can cause buyers to overlook your home. Even some agents are guilty of using their smartphone to take listing photos, which is truly a disservice to their sellers.
I’ve seen plenty of comical listing photos throughout my career. I’ve seen grandma lounging on a raft in a pool when the pool itself should’ve been showcased. At 1:41 in the video above, you can see a series of other bad photos I’ve come across, including one with the owner’s pig lying on the floor of one of their rooms.
As you can see, these photos don’t make a good impression, so hire a professional photographer when listing your home. It will pay off tenfold.
