If I was moving to Monmouth County today, I wouldn’t start by looking at homes.
And I definitely wouldn’t start by looking at a map.
I would start with one question:
👉 What do I want my everyday life to actually feel like?
Because here’s what most people get wrong…
You can buy a beautiful house in the wrong town—and end up completely unhappy with your day-to-day life.
I wouldn’t just pick a town randomly because here’s the truth most people don’t realize:
👉 Not all towns in New Jersey offer the same lifestyle
👉 Not all areas hold value the same way
👉 And the “best” place completely depends on how you want to live day-to-day
As a local real estate expert in Monmouth County, I’ve helped hundreds of buyers relocate—and I can tell you this:
Where you choose to live will shape your entire experience in New Jersey.
So in this guide, I’m breaking down exactly where I would move—and why.

🌊 If You Want the Beach Lifestyle…
If your vision of New Jersey includes:
- Morning walks by the water
- Summer beach days
- Coastal restaurants and nightlife
Then your focus should be on towns along the Jersey Shore.
Areas like:
- Long Branch
- Asbury Park
- Belmar
These towns offer a completely different lifestyle compared to inland suburbs.
What to expect:
- Higher price points near the water
- Strong demand (especially for updated homes)
- A more lifestyle-driven buyer pool
👉 If beach access is your priority, this is where you’ll feel it every day.
🌊 If I Wanted Beach + Lifestyle, I’d Choose Long Branch
Another town I would absolutely consider is Long Branch.
Because it gives you a similar lifestyle feel to Red Bank—but now you’re by the beach.

And what I love about Long Branch is how much it has evolved.
- It’s built up
- It’s vibrant
- It feels alive
You have places like Pier Village where you can:
- Walk to restaurants
- Grab coffee
- Go to the beach
- Meet friends
- Walk to the gym
👉 It gives you that everyday lifestyle, not just a weekend escape.
⚠️ The Mistake Buyers Make with Beach Towns
This is where I see people go wrong all the time.
They fall in love with the idea of the beach in the summer…
But they don’t think about:
- January
- February
- March
Some shore towns feel completely different in the off-season.
But Long Branch?
👉 It still has life.
It’s not just a summer destination—it’s a place you can truly live year-round.
📍 Why Location Within Monmouth County Matters
Another reason I like Long Branch?
You’re not isolated.
You’re close to:
- Red Bank
- Asbury Park
- Eatontown
So you get the beach lifestyle without sacrificing convenience or accessibility.
🌆 If I Wanted Walkability & Energy, I’d Choose Red Bank
If I was moving here right now, one of the first places I would seriously consider is Red Bank.
And the reason has nothing to do with the houses.
It’s the lifestyle.

I love the idea of being able to walk out my front door and actually live my life without getting in my car.
- Grab coffee in the morning
- Walk to dinner
- Meet friends
- Go to events
There’s an energy here that you just don’t get in a lot of other towns in Monmouth County.
👉 And it’s not seasonal—it’s active all year round.
🧠So… Where Would I Choose?
If I was moving to Monmouth County today and I wanted:
✔️ Walkability
✔️ Restaurants
✔️ Energy
✔️ A lifestyle outside my home
I would be strongly considering:
👉 Red Bank
👉 Long Branch
Because at the end of the day…
It’s not about the house first.
It’s about how you want your life to feel when you wake up every morning.
🏫 If Schools Are Your Top Priority…
For many buyers relocating to New Jersey, schools are the #1 driver.
And in that case, I would focus on towns known for strong school systems and community structure, like:
- Marlboro
- Manalapan
- Holmdel
These areas are known for:
- Consistently high-performing schools
- Family-oriented neighborhoods
- Strong resale value over time
👉 This is where buyers tend to prioritize long-term stability and investment.
🌳 If You Want Space, Value & More House for Your Money…
Not everyone needs the beach or top-tier school districts.
If your priority is:
- Larger homes
- Bigger lots
- More value for your budget
Then I would look at inland towns like:
- Howell
- Freehold Township
These areas often offer:
- More square footage
- Lower price per square foot
- Quieter, suburban feel
👉 This is where buyers can really stretch their budget.
📍 The Truth About Choosing the “Best” Town
Here’s the mistake I see buyers make all the time:
They ask,
“What’s the best town?”
But that’s the wrong question.
The better question is:
👉 “What do I want my life to look like when I move?”
Because:
- A beach town might feel too busy for some
- A top school district might come with higher taxes
- A value-driven town might not have the same “name recognition”
And none of those are wrong—they’re just different.
📊 The Market Right Now
In today’s Monmouth County market:
- Homes under ~$850K that are move-in ready → extremely competitive
- Luxury homes ($1.5M+) → longer days on market
- Buyers are prioritizing:
- Beach lifestyle
- OR strong school systems
If your home doesn’t clearly offer one of those, it can take longer to sell.
👉 Which is exactly why choosing the right town matters so much.
🧠So… Where Would I Move?
If I were moving to New Jersey today, I would choose based on:
✔️ My lifestyle
✔️ My long-term goals
✔️ My daily routine
Because the “right” town isn’t about popularity…
It’s about alignment.
đź’¬ Final Thoughts
New Jersey has incredible options—but they are not one-size-fits-all.
The key is understanding:
- What each town actually offers
- What matters most to you
- And how to position yourself in this market
Because when you get that right…
👉 Everything else becomes easier.
